Box Brief
Teri DeMarco is your August Member of the Month!

1. When did you start CrossFit?
After spending about 1 year telling my hubby, Edwin, that I would never do CrossFit, I came to a crossroads.  I knew my current gym situation was not sustainable and and I was overtraining.  I had to figure out what program would work.  Serendipitously, Edwin had just joined CrossFit Tilt about 6 weeks before and he said I needed to meet with Max.  He knew that CrossFit was the right methodology for me, but knew that I had to “buy into” the head coach before I’d take the plunge.  I met Max on April 15 and thought he was a great guy!  I did Elements on April 17 and started CrossFit Tilt classes on April 19th and have been completing 5 WODs a week since.
2. What is your favorite movement and workout?
Anything barbell.  I love me some barbells!!  I think the snatch is one of my favorite movements – it’s so dynamic.  Favorite workout is harder to nail…  I kind of like them all, even though I am often daunted before I start.  I’ve learned to shut off thinking about what I am about to do until the coach says “go” and then I settle into whatever is in front of me.  My faves are ones that have a defined rep count or a descending ladder, sub 15 mins – my brain likes those  – It’s just some work I have to complete.
3. What is your least favorite movement and workout?
Long runs are no fun for me, but I think that’s body mechanics and I’m trying to figure it out.. Burpees are getting easier, but large volume burpees are always daunting.
4. What class do you go to? Who do you absolutely love to throw down with?
I am a regular at the 6:15 during the week and the 8a on Saturdays.  There is a long list of folks I love to throw down with including Savannah, K$, Colleen, Amy, Annie, Kelly, Jen, Vicky, Maria,  – I’m sure I’m missing some folks!
5. If there was a “Teri” workout what would it be?
It would definitely be a team WOD as I love working together toward a goal.  I like push ups, ring rows, and pretty much any barbell movement like cleans or clean and jerks or snatches..  Since all of those would smoke our shoulders, we’d probably have to have squats or a short run/row to balance it all out.  Descending ladder and beers after.
6. If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
Now this is a hard one for me… I tend to food jag (get tired of stuff) pretty regularly.  But maybe it’s pie and I could put whatever into the pie — savory pie, sweet pie, pizza pie, shepherds pie…  Yum.
7. If there was a “Teri” ice cream flavor what would it be?
“Hot Hubby” – Vanilla Ice Cream with Chili Chocolate swirls.  So delicious it sets your mouth on fire but you keep going back for another spoonful.
8. What is your spirit animal?
I had a shaman once tell me that my spirit animal is an Eagle, true story.  This shaman also accurately predicted, through animal tarot cards, meeting Edwin (hubby) and how our relationship would unfold.  Edwin believes in none of this, BTW (he’s probably rolling his eyes right now)

Eagle’s medicine includes swiftness, strength, courage, wisdom, keen sight, illumination of Spirit, healing, creation, knowledge of magic, ability to see hidden spiritual truths, rising above the material to see the spiritual, ability to see the overall pattern/big picture, connection to spirit guides and teachers and higher truths, great power and balance, dignity with grace, intuitive and creative spirit, respect for the boundaries of the regions, grace achieved through knowledge and hard work.
9. Describe a perfect day.
I think every day if the perfect day… (unless there are a ton of things I have to do outside the house that are dictated by someone else.)
2 hours at Tilt in the am, breakfast at Rox Diner and a relaxing day that includes researching/thinking about my upcoming conference talks, checking out CrossFit training vids, puttering around the house, cooking, and hanging with the kids.  (it pretty much describes every day of my life recently except the Rox Diner part)
10. Any last thoughts on being Member of the Month?
Thanks for naming me Tilt Member of the Month!  I join a pretty stellar list of athletes who have held the same honor!
I am so grateful that everything aligned perfectly for me to join this wonderful group of people, all who are looking to better themselves.  I enjoy every conversation I have with fellow Tilt members and I love getting to know each one of you better, over time.  There is a special energy in the gym and I look forward to tapping into at the gym and on the FB Group Page.  It charges my batteries in a way that I never knew I needed.
I am also grateful to Max, Sean, James and Brian for their tireless commitment to helping me improve on my goats, for pushing me to go harder and for seeing my potential as an athlete.  Their wonderful attitudes make showing up and giving 100% every day very easy.  I feel like I won the lottery!
