Workout Guidance
Today we’re testing three different energy systems with our Concept 2 machines! This workout is all about how our muscles utilize sugar and transform it into energy. We’re going to start with a max aerobic power test. This is going to test our ability to use the sugar that’s stored locally at the muscle site, in a process called “Fast Glycolysis.” Our muscles store glucose as glycogen and when they have to work very hard in the 5 minute time domain they break down that sugar to use it for energy. Our 20 minute time domain is going to test “Slow Glycolysis” where our body breaks the sugar that’s stored in our liver to power the activity in our muscles. Our last test in the 1 minute time domain will utilize fuel in the phospagen system, where our bodies use stored ATP and creatine phosphate to power very high intensity, short duration activity.
